This site is dedicated to allowing young people to register their interest in participating in further opportunities for NCS graduates. It also enables interested charities and corporate partners to register their details for programmes and submit opportunities for NCS graduates.

This policy sets out the basis on which any personal information we collect from you or that you provide to us, through this website or otherwise in relation to our programmes will be processed by us. Please read the policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal information and how we will treat it. By visiting and continuing to use this website you are consenting to the practices described in this policy and more particularly, how and for what purpose your personal data may be processed.

For the purposes of data protection law, the data controller in respect of personal information collected through this website, or that we otherwise collect in relation to our programmes, is The Challenge Network. We may share the information with other persons as described below.

When you register an expression of interest in one of our opportunities you will be asked to enter your personal details, which may include name, e-mail address, telephone number and home or office address.

If you sign up to an opportunity or programme, photographic images and/or video footage (for example, if you are in a group photo) may be created during your participation.  We also collect data when you correspond with us by phone, email or otherwise, and through our monitoring of participation.

Where you, as a young person apply to participate in one of our opportunities, we may as part of the application process ask you for personal information, including some sensitive personal information (regarding your physical or mental health, criminal record, ethnic background or religion). We ask these questions and collect this information solely for the purposes of supporting you and monitoring participation. Social integration is key to The Challenge Network’s values. Please read further information on our mission here  if you wish. If you prefer not to give any such information, for whatever reason, then please select the “Prefer not to say” option from the drop-down list, where available. We may collect some information of the same kind as it comes to our attention over time as part of the monitoring and continual review and update of our programmes.


Your  information may be stored, shared and used by The Challenge Network and other related organisations, including our charity partners and donors, our partners working on our current and future programmes, government bodies (including, where a young person participates or applies to participate in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, the NCS), fraud detection organisations, organisations supporting the delivery of our programmes and other organisations running or supporting all or part of a programme. For example, we report on progress of the NCS programme to NCS and, where relevant, may give feedback on a young person’s experience of a programme to his or her school or college.

Photographic images and/or video taken in connection with our programmes may be published, including on the Internet as part of the marketing of the programme.

If you indicate that you require further assistance in order to participate in one of our programmes then we may contact you to discuss this further. We will never pass such information to our partners without first asking you and gaining your consent.

We will not disclose your personal information except as described in this privacy policy; in an emergency (for example, for medical purposes); or where we are required to do so by law.

What your data will be used for:

  • Information about you as a young person generally
    • Running and evaluating our programmes, including contacting you when necessary.
    • Helping us develop, deliver, and improve the design, content and marketing of our programmes.
    • Contacting you about taking part in press and communications activity related to our programmes.
    • Internal purposes such as auditing, evaluation, data analysis, preventing or detecting fraud or error and research to improve our service and customer communications.
    • Assessing your particular needs and ensuring that they are met.
    • Monitoring equality of opportunity.
    • If you enter into a sweepstake, contest, or similar promotion related to one of our programmes, administering that promotion.
    • In the case of photographic images and/or video of a young person, producing publicity, promotional and marketing material for our programmes.

With your consent, we may also use the contact details that we hold in relation any programme or opportunities in which you have expressed an interest or have participated in, to contact you with information regarding The Challenge Network, our programmes and other programmes offered by the NCS and other sponsoring or partner organisations, about other graduate opportunities, events, research, referral promotions or competitions. This may involve contact by post, telephone or email, and the NCS and other sponsoring or partner organisations may send similar communications regarding their own programmes. You can give or withdraw your consent at any time. We will never sell your or a young person’s personal information to third party marketing agencies.

    • Contacting you about taking part in one of our programmes.
  • Information about you as a teacher, tutor or member of staff at an educational establishment
  • Contacting you with information about how to get your school, college, educational establishment or students involved in one of our programmes.
  • Contacting you about taking part in research related to our programmes.
  • Contacting you about our other programmes.

We will not hold personal information for longer than is necessary for these purposes. We may, however, keep information about a young person after they have completed a programme. We may in particular keep medical information about a young person, and information about any measures taken to accommodate the young person and their requirements, for up to 18 months  after they have completed a programme and use it, where relevant, in relation to other programmes in which they may express an interest or participate.


We have a legal duty to protect any personal information we collect from you. All personal data is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Unfortunately the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict security standards to try and prevent unauthorised access.

The Challenge Network may from time to time need to use the services of an Information Service Provider located outside of the European Economic Area for technical reasons.

 However, The Challenge Network shall ensure that your personal information will be held by those Providers in compliance with European data protection regulations. By submitting your personal information to our website, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing at a location outside the European Economic Area. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. 


Data protection law allows you to request copies of personal information that we hold about you, to require inaccurate personal information to be corrected and, in some circumstances, to object to our processing of your personal information.
